I love a good upholstered headboard as much as the next design blogger. I have one myself! But while out and about on Memorial Day weekend, I drove past one of these, leaning against a vintage store I'd never been in before. I literally drove back around the block to check it out. (And yet, I didn't take a picture. Go figure.)
Maybe it was the fact that it was the unofficial first day of summer, but something about this headboard struck me as so fresh. I immediately wanted to snap it up, run home, and paint my guest room a bright blue. Or green. Maybe coral. Or paper it in this:

Turns out, I am not alone. The white rattan isn't for the faint of heart, and it probably won't be making its way into a Crate & Barrel catalog anytime soon, but it can be chic and streamlined as long as you let it be the star.
Here it is against a soft mint green:

With some 70's floral flair:

And perhaps the reason I love it in the first place: in Susan's Monterey ranch bedroom in pretty much the best movie ever, The Parent Trap.

What do you think? Would you have stopped the car for this headboard too? Or not be able to drive away fast enough?
In the right room, I think it could be gorgeous. Definitely a fun, focal point too!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, such a fresh look! Love it in the black against the white walls!

I love it against the minty green with the seagulls. Oh, if I had a beach house.
ReplyDeleteI think if it fits the rest of the look you're aiming for, then sure, it's fine. For example, in a Lilly Pulitzer-type space, (tropical/bright/fun), I can see it working.
ReplyDeleteIn my house, maybe not!
I love white rattan, in fact the third picture is exactly the headboard I had as a child. I would have stopped for sure!!! I never get tired of white rattan or white wicker!! Kathysue
